I've been drinking

song of the day- Drunk in Love by Beyonce
A few months ago I started a 101 things in 1001 days challenge, and one of my tasks is to bake cupcakes. I wanted to try my hand at pinata cupcakes, but I ate the chocolate beans before I'd even turned the oven on. So instead I decided to bake regular old fairy cakes. The first batch (using Asda plain base mix) didn't turn out so well. I think it was because the instructions had the over on too low, so the cakes dipped and burned. For the second batch I tried this recipe from the BBC website, and they worked great! I did have them in the over for around 25 minutes, rather than the 10-15 recommended in the recipe.

Do you enjoy baking? Have you made anything recently?

Down to the sub atomic part of it

song of the day - Atom by British Sea Power

Last week I decided it was time to retire old faithful, aka the Zara handbag I bought in 2012 and fell in love with. Ok, so technically it's not that old. It's had a good run; there's paint on the bag from when I was helping my brother decorate his house last year, and the strap is falling to pieces. I love handbags, but I'm pretty lazy with switching them out, so when I find one I like I stick with it for the long haul.
At the end of last year I won a few Selfridges gift cards (one through blogging and the other through Facebook), so I thought I'd get myself a good quality bag. After scouring the Selfrdiges website I went with the Dune Dartop handbag, which will hopefully do me well for the next few years. At £69 it's more than I would usually spend on a bag, but with the giftcard it was too good to say no.
what's in my bag; Multitude of lip products, notebook (Ryman), diary & pen (muji), keys, current read (The Prince by Machiavelli), purse (therapy).
The bag is very structured, so I'm hoping it will ease a bit after a year uses, because it's a bit tough to get larger items (such as my camera) into it at the minute. With three compartments it may take me a while to get used to having my things separated, instead of in one big jumble.

So, are you a one bag kind of person? or do you have a bag for every occasion?

It made everything clearer

song of the day - I'm Slowly Turning Into You by The White Stripes

  1. The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx & Friedrich Engles
  2. The Shock of New by Robert Hughes
  3. The Mathematical Theory of Communication by CE Shannon & Warren Weaver
  4. History and Theory in Anthropology by Alan Barnard
  5. The Politics of Display edited by Sharon Macdonald
  6. Creative Display by Geraldine James

I love books. There's no way around it. If it was a choice between a stack of books or a suitcase full of clothing from my favourite brand, I would go for the books. Although I am better at not buying books, probably because I just add them to my amazon wishlist. That primark dress might be gone next week, but the book will still be online.

And If You Go Chasing Rabbits

song of the day - White Rabbit by Grace Turner and the Nocturnals.
me; coat - Next. leggings - H&M. boots - Bertie.
I don't get out of my hometown often, and when I do it's usually to pop down to Manchester for a mooch. Today though I (and by "I" I mean my best friend and me) decided to go a little further afield to Clitheroe. A small town that seemed to mostly be one way roads, cute shops, and a castle (which is not as big as the term castle would lead you to think). I had a lovely day, the only downside was the weather. It felt more like February than May to me.

On our way to the castle we got talking to an older man who was walking his dog. He told us about the Lancashire Witches, and the waymakers that mark 10 witches along the Lancashire Witches Walk. Above is the Tercet for Isabel Robey. I might have to visit all 10 of these at some point. Sadly, I didn't get this mans name, but his lovely dog was called Darcy.
We visited three different cafes (one for coffee, one for lunch, and then the last for dessert), and spotted many more on our wander. One was Callooh! Calley, a sweet little tea room and vintage shop. It was closed today, but hopefully next time I go for a visit it'll be open.
Have you ever been to Clitheroe?
